An article taken from the February 1929 issue of the Southern News Bulletin tells of a group of Southern Railway employees who had talents beyond their work for Southern Railway in Salisbury, NC and in Spencer Shops, the home of the North Carolina Transportation Museum. From left to right the singers are J. M. Drake, engineer, H. Q. Sides, clerk, C. E. Sides, fireman, and C. D. Godfrey, machinist, who formed a quartet that was well known throughout the Piedmont and was fortunate enough to record two songs for the Victor Talking Machine Company.
