North Carolina State University has been acknowledged as a leading institution in the number of faculty members selected for the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Programs, according to an announcement by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
“NC State’s recognition as a top Fulbright-producing institution demonstrates its strong dedication to global exchange and the creation of enduring relationships between people in the U.S. and other nations,” stated Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Warwick Arden. He emphasized that “the university’s work with Fulbright scholars cultivates a community of global citizens ready to contribute significantly both locally and internationally.”
For the 2024-25 academic year, eight faculty members from NC State were awarded Fulbright scholarships. The recipients include Jia Hou, Lauren Brooks, Diane Chapman, Adriana San Miguel Delgadillo, Intae Yoon, Sarah Bowen, and Fernando Garcia Menendez.
This accomplishment underscores NC State's ongoing commitment to fostering collaboration among various departments to enhance participation in the Fulbright program on campus. The University Fellowships Office supports students applying for Fulbright opportunities while the Office for Faculty Excellence assists faculty scholars. These efforts are complemented by initiatives from the Office of Global Engagement which have collectively integrated Fulbright into campus culture through interview assistance for students, informative websites about resources and policies, and a mini-grant program known as the Fulbright Pathfinder for faculty exploring potential host institutions prior to application.
The Fulbright Program is recognized as the premier international academic exchange initiative sponsored by the U.S. government since 1946. It has facilitated over 400,000 individuals from diverse backgrounds—students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals—to study, teach or conduct research abroad while promoting cross-cultural exchanges aimed at tackling complex global issues.
