Rhonda Phipps from West End, North Carolina, has been appointed as the local program coordinator for Special Olympics Moore County. The announcement was made by Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC) President/CEO Keith L. Fishburne. Phipps, an Exceptional Children’s teacher for 30 years, has actively supported Special Olympics programs in both Moore County and Pitt County.

In her new role, Phipps will oversee the implementation of Special Olympics activities within Moore County. She will lead a volunteer committee dedicated to providing sports training, competition opportunities, and health and wellness initiatives for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Her responsibilities include recruiting, training, and managing volunteers, increasing athlete participation, and fundraising to support the program.

Special Olympics North Carolina, established in 1968, leverages sports to enhance the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities. Nearly 45,000 athletes and Unified partners in North Carolina motivate numerous coaches, officials, local program members, and organizers involved in Special Olympics activities across the state. SONC offers year-round training and competition in 20 Olympic-style sports at both local and state levels. The organization also runs health and wellness initiatives aimed at improving health status and access to community health resources for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
