NC 55 Lane Closures at Carpenter Fire Station Road

September 11-13, contractors working on behalf of Cary will be milling and resurfacing all travel lanes of N.C. 55 Highway in a continuous work period. This work is being performed as part of the Carpenter Fire Station Road Bridge and Intersection Improvements Project. Lane closures will continue nightly during non-peak travel times to continue to install traffic signal equipment in preparation for the final traffic patterns at N.C. 55 and Carpenter Fire Station Road.

Go Lights Out and Support Birds in Their Migration!

Beginning September 10 through November 30, millions of birds are migrating through the night skies in our region and you can assist them on their journey! Help reduce light pollution each evening by taking simple steps such as turning off unnecessary indoor and outdoor lights or keeping blinds and curtains closed at night. Learn more about how Cary is teaming up with the Audubon Society to help prevent bird-window collisions. 

Registration Open for Fall Litter Sweeps

Atlantic Tire Championship

Tickets for the Atlantic Tire Tennis Championship are now on sale. Multiple ticket options are available, including single-day tickets and multi-day ticket packages. Also known as the Cary Challenger, this USTA Pro Circuit Event tournament attracts many of the top ATP professionals and capitalizes on the excitement created by the biggest Grand Slam, the US Open. Winter Youth Basketball Registration

Registration opens September 13 for Cary residents. Basketball leagues are open to players age 5-18 (age as of Oct. 15, 2023). The season runs November to mid February. Visit Winter Youth Basketball for more.

Cary Downtown Farmers Market

200 E. Chatham Street, Downtown Cary, 8 a.m. to noon

Join the Cary Downtown Farmers Market at its temporary location at the parking lot of The Perfect Piece each Saturday. Find a wonderful lineup of vendors offering all locally made and locally grown items. Shop for freshly harvested produce, humanely raised meat, and artisan-made goods. Stop by the info booth to learn about their matching program for SNAP/EBT. Children can also get their very own Farmers Market Passport and participate in the Eat-A-Rainbow program, which encourages children to eat healthy, nutritious foods. Parking for the new location can be found at the public parking lot behind the Methodist Church (off Walker St. and Waldo St.). 8th Annual Asia Fest with Dragon Boat Racing

Koka Booth Amphitheatre, 10 a.m.

Come explore the nearly 100 exhibits and activities such as cultural displays, exciting games, health screenings, unique performances, and of course, the signature dragon boat race. The festival also features a wide variety of delicious foods and delicacies from across the world. You can even sample unique street foods prepared by local chefs. Film: T.S. Eliot’s Four Quartets (Not Rated)

Ralph Fiennes’ exquisite performance of T. S. Eliot’s poetic masterpiece is dynamically translated from stage to screen by director Sophie Fiennes. During the early days of COVID, the Oscar® nominee set himself the challenge of committing Four Quartets to memory, and in 2021 he brought it to the London stage, followed by a tour of theaters across the UK.

Public Safety Day

Downtown Cary on Academy St., 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Formerly known as Cary's Night Out, Public Safety Day brings together local agencies, activities, attractions, and vendors to help promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity. Harvest Fest

Good Hope Farm, 12 - 4 p.m.

Celebrate Cary's agricultural heritage with an afternoon of free fun down on the farm! Event features include live music, local food and beverages, farm tours, and more on the historic working farm. The whole family can enjoy kid's activities, shopping booths from sustainable sellers, or chatting with local environmental experts.

And don’t miss the Carpenter Area Greenway Walk taking place at 2 p.m.! Guests can depart from the Greenways Booth for a guided three-mile trail walk to celebrate North Carolina’s state-wide Year of the Trail campaign while exploring pollinator gardens, native tree installations, future Cary greenway plans, and more. Harry Potter’s (Daniel Radcliffe) third year at Hogwarts starts off badly when he learns deranged killer Sirius Black (Gary Oldman) has escaped from Azkaban prison and is bent on murdering the teenage wizard. While Hermione’s (Emma Watson) cat torments Ron’s (Rupert Grint) sickly rat, causing a rift among the trio, a swarm of nasty Dementors is sent to protect the school from Black. A mysterious new teacher helps Harry learn to defend himself, but what is his secret tie to Sirius Black?

Film: Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire (PG-13)

The Cary Theater, 5 p.m.

The fourth movie in the Harry Potter franchise sees Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) returning for his fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, along with his friends, Ron and Hermione. There is an upcoming tournament between the three major schools of magic, with one participant selected from each school by the Goblet of Fire. When Harry’s name is drawn, even though he is not eligible and is a fourth player, he must compete in the dangerous contest.

Marvelous Music Mainstage Series: “Ella, the Early Years” – Amanda King in Concert    

The Cary Arts Center, 7:30 p.m. 

Amanda King has delighted audiences from New York City to San Francisco with her joyous celebration in Ella, the Early Years. Focusing on Ella Fitzgerald’s early career with great music and superb storytelling, Amanda is backed by a “big band” ensemble to artfully deliver a wonderful jazz concert as well as a cultural retrospective. Film: Mutiny in Heaven: The Birthday Party (Not Rated)

The film, fully authorized by the band’s surviving members and estates, provides a glimpse into another dimension and goes deep inside the psyche and experiences of the band members to chronicle how, over a ten-year period, a group of Australian school friends, led by Nick Cave, jolted audiences awake into Dionysian frenzy with their confrontational, intense performances.
