It's the Year of the Trail in North Carolina! Our website, wakegov.com/yearofthetrail, is packed full of resources and information, as well as our downloadable Trail Tracker that you can use to challenge yourself in 2023!
As part of this yearlong celebration, we'll feature one of our parks or preserves -- and its amazing trails -- on the last Friday of each month. First up is Wake County's section of the American Tobacco Trail, which celebrates its th anniversary this year!
The American Tobacco Trail project converted an abandoned railroad into a multi-use trail system that covers 22 miles from New Hill to downtown City of Durham, NC Government. Wake County’s portion of the American Tobacco Trail offers a quiet and rural setting traversing 6.5 miles from the community of New Hill in southern Wake County to the Chatham County, North Carolina line. The trail is open to walkers, runners, bicyclists and equestrians.
