Join the City for a virtual community conversation to share experiences and perspectives on racism and discrimination and discuss ways the Durham community can heal from the adverse and ongoing impacts of racism.
What: Community and Culture: Healing Our City, a National Day of Racial Healing Community Conversation
Who: Human Relations Commission and City of Durham Neighborhood Improvement Services and Equity & Inclusion Departments

In honor of the National Day of Racial Healing, a virtual community conversation is planned to discuss universal community healing: A CURE.
A – Affirming the value of people
C – Cultivating a culture of belonging
U – Understanding differences
R – Restoring individuals to wholeness
E – Educating the community
Tuesday’s open forum will be structured to listen to community about their experiences of race, racism and/or discrimination; encourage participants to become open to one another’s perspectives and experiences; and to discover from the community how to facilitate sustainable and transformative change.
Event organizers hope this kick-off event will begin the process to lead to sustainable and transformative actions to heal the Durham community of the ills of racism and its lingering adverse impacts.
Durham youth are strongly encouraged to participate to have their voices heard as the community’s current and future leaders.
Established by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the National Day of Racial Healing is an opportunity for individuals, communities, and organizations to acknowledge shared humanity, restore trust in each other, build authentic relationships, and inspire collective action on how to heal from the effects of racism.
