Town of Apex issued the following announcement on Nov. 19.
Town of Apex Designated “SolSmart Gold” for Advancing Solar Energy Growth
The Town of Apex received a Gold designation from the national SolSmart program for making it faster, easier, and more affordable for homes and businesses to go solar.
The designation recognizes the Town of Apex for taking bold steps to encourage solar energy growth and remove obstacles to solar development.
Apex joins a group of only 127 cities and counties towns nationwide, and only five in North Carolina, who have achieved SolSmart gold designation. This positions Apex as one of the best in the state and nation in terms of encouraging solar energy growth.
“Our pursuit of the SolSmart gold designation demonstrates the town government’s commitment to alternative energy leadership, providing citizens with confidence to personally pursue alternative energy sources, just as the town has done,” said Apex Mayor Lance Olive.
Recent efforts made by the town include streamlining permitting processes, eliminating inspection fees related to solar PV installation, and encouraging voluntary zoning conditions related to solar PV systems. Apex also installed solar PV systems on nine government buildings.
SolSmart is led by The Solar Foundation and the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office.
