On March 17, Holly Springs officials and residents celebrated the opening of the Middle Creek Greenway. This new three-mile paved greenway is designed for walkers, cyclists, and dog owners.
The greenway connects Sunset Lake Road and Holly Springs Road, linking neighborhoods such as Arbor Creek, Bridgewater, Sunset Ridge North, and Woodcreek. Mayor Sean Mayefskie highlighted its significance: “Residents have made it clear that greenways and trails are a top priority for investment and Middle Creek Greenway is another step in connecting our community.” He added that the greenway will eventually link to Apex, allowing bike travel between downtown Holly Springs and downtown Apex.
Part of the Holly Springs Road improvement project includes a new sidepath leading to downtown Holly Springs. With this addition, the town's greenway network expands from 12 to 15 miles. Parks and Recreation Director LeeAnn Plumer stated, “When we began to design the Middle Creek Greenway we wanted it to be a representation of the Town’s commitment to sustainability, health, and quality of life.”
Local residents attended the ribbon-cutting event and participated in activities like searching for "pots of gold" for prizes. The town acknowledged the cooperation of nearby HOA Boards and landowners who supported this development.
Access points encourage walking or biking to enjoy the greenway. Limited parking is available at 6401 Lockley Rd for those who drive. More information about Holly Springs' greenways can be found at hollyspringsnc.gov/greenway.
