The North Carolina Courage concluded their NWSL regular season with a 0-1 defeat against the Washington Spirit at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. The match, attended by 10,026 fans, marked the second-largest regular season attendance in the club's history and was their third sellout since relocating to North Carolina in 2017.
Ashley Hatch scored the decisive goal for Washington Spirit in the 37th minute with a long-range shot that found the back of the net. Despite efforts from substitutes like Denise O’Sullivan and Ashley Sanchez to improve the Courage's performance in the second half, they were unable to equalize. Tyler Lussi came close to scoring in the 58th minute, but her goal was disallowed due to an offside call.
Looking ahead, North Carolina Courage will face Kansas City Current in the NWSL quarterfinals on Saturday, November 9, at noon ET. The game will be available on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
In this match, North Carolina Courage made five changes to their starting lineup compared to their previous NWSL game. Kaleigh Kurtz and Casey Murphy completed every minute of the regular season as Iron Women for Courage, with Kurtz achieving this milestone for three consecutive seasons.
