Cary, NC — Cary officials, Koka Booth Amphitheatre management, and Chinese Lantern Festival partner Tianyu Arts & Culture have made the difficult decision to close the North Carolina Chinese Lantern Festival effective , January 11, 2024. The Festival was originally slated to end on Sunday, January 14, 2024. The decision comes as Festival engineers completed their thorough evaluations of the lantern displays and it was apparent that some of the larger, signature displays suffered severe structural damage from the storms earlier this week. Engineers concluded that proper repairs could not be completed in time before the Festival’s scheduled conclusion.

“Our heart breaks for those who had plans to attend the Festival in its final few days,” said William Lewis, Cary’s Cultural Arts Manager. “Public safety is paramount, and we appreciate the careful analysis and thoughtful conversations with all stakeholders in making this joint decision. It’s a reminder that these grand outdoor art exhibits are ephemeral, and we enjoy and appreciate them while they are here.” Lewis added that online.flippingbook.com has a catalog of this year’s displays for patrons who didn’t get to experience them in person.

Patrons holding tickets for the remaining days will receive instructions via email about refund options. The North Carolina Chinese Festival will return to Cary in 2024-25 with all new displays. The Chinese Lantern Festival returns November 22, 2024 – January 12, 2025.
