Prepare for Loose Leaf Collection

We are officially two weeks away from our 2023 Loose Leaf Collection season! All leaves should be loose and at the curb by October 30 for proper pickup. To track your curbside collection and learn more about our program, please visit carync.gov/leaves and download our Cary Collects app for collections notifications. Crews will train with live equipment on the streets on October 18 and 19. Expect to see Loose Leaf Collection crews and equipment in your area on these dates.

Parks & Open Space Plan Feedback

Did you know Cary has over 90 miles of greenways and 51 parks ranging from small pocket parks to large metro parks? This also includes over 2,600 acres of open spaces. This fall, we invite residents to share their ideas and actively participate in shaping the future of Cary's parks and open spaces and the programming that is occurring in these spaces. Saúl Armendáriz, a gay amateur wrestler from El Paso, rises to international stardom after he creates the character Cassandro, the “Liberace of Lucha Libre.” In the process, he upends not just the macho wrestling world but also his own life. Based on a true story. Directed by Academy Award winner Roger Ross Williams.

Film: Go On, Be Brave (Not Rated)

The Cary Theater, 7 p.m.

 "Go On, Be Brave" is the story of Andrea Lytle Peet’s race against time and an attempt at the impossible—to be the first person with ALS to complete a marathon in all 50 states. Andrea declared her goal when she reached the milestone of five years of living with ALS… right before the global pandemic shut down all races. Post-film discussion to follow the screening. Presented in partnership with the five Rotary Clubs of Cary.

Film: Stop Making Sense (PG)

The Cary Theater, 2 p.m.

Newly restored in 4K to coincide with its 40th anniversary, the 1984 film was directed by renowned filmmaker Jonathan Demme and is considered by critics as the greatest concert film of all time. "Stop Making Sense" stars core band members David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, and Jerry Harrison, along with Bernie Worrell, Alex Weir, Steve Scales, Lynn Mabry, and Edna Holt. The live performance was shot over the course of three nights at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December of 1983 and features Talking Heads’ most memorable songs.

Zombiepalooza 2023

Join us for the 8th annual Zombiepalooza, Cary’s locally produced zombie-themed short film screening celebration. Our annual costume competition will take place after the film block. Come dressed in your favorite Halloween costume and win prizes!

Cary Downtown Farmers Market

200 E. Chatham Street, Downtown Cary, 8 a.m. to noon

Join the Cary Downtown Farmers Market at its temporary location at the parking lot of The Perfect Piece each Saturday. Find a wonderful lineup of vendors offering all locally made and locally grown items. Shop for freshly harvested produce, humanely raised meat, and artisan-made goods. Stop by the info booth to learn about their matching program for SNAP/EBT. Children can also get their very own Farmers Market Passport and participate in the Eat-A-Rainbow program, which encourages children to eat healthy, nutritious foods. Parking for the new location can be found at the public parking lot behind the Methodist Church (off Walker St. and Waldo St.). Film: Little Shop of Horrors (PG-13)

Meek flower shop assistant Seymour pines for co-worker Audrey. During a total eclipse, he discovers an unusual plant he names Audrey II, which feeds only on human flesh and blood. The growing plant attracts a great deal of business for the previously struggling store. After Seymour feeds Audrey’s boyfriend, Orin, to the plant after Orin’s accidental death, he must come up with more bodies for the increasingly bloodthirsty plant.

Harvest Fest

Good Hope Farm, noon

Celebrate Cary’s agricultural legacy, shop green vendors and artisans for holiday gifts, and gather tips and tools for supporting sustainability at this free festival. Farm tours, live music, local brews and bites, and free kids' activities promise fun for the whole family. Chat with farmers or just kick back in a hammock and enjoy an afternoon down on the farm; don’t miss this chance to explore Cary’s historic teaching farm!

Film: Ghostbusters (PG)

Suit up for classic comedy! Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) take a chance on going freelance, de-haunting houses in a new ghost removal service. As soon as they open their doors, their first order of business becomes saving beautiful cellist Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) and nerdy Louis Tully (Rick Moranis), who’ve inadvertently opened the gates of hell—right in their own apartment building!

Film: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (PG)

This remake of the classic horror film is set in San Francisco. Matthew Bennell (Donald Sutherland) assumes that when a friend (Brooke Adams) complains of her husband’s strange mood, it’s a marital issue. However, he begins to worry as more people report similar observations. His concern is confirmed when writer Jack Bellicec (Jeff Goldblum) and his wife (Veronica Cartwright) discover a mutated corpse. Besieged by an invisible enemy, Bennell must work quickly before the city is consumed.

Light The Night Walk

When you or a loved one is told, "you have cancer," it can be one of the darkest moments in life. Our efforts provide a ray of hope in the midst of despair, create a sense of community, and contribute to life-saving research and support for cancer patients and their families. Film: The Rocky Horror Picture Show (R)

The Cary Theater, 8 p.m.

In this cult classic, sweethearts Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon), stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry), a transgender scientist. As their innocence is lost, Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker (Meat Loaf) and a creepy butler (Richard O’Brien). Through elaborate dances and rock songs, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named “Rocky.” Costumes, dancing, and singing along are encouraged!
