Cary, N.C.– From snow flurries to leaves falling, Cary crews are training and preparing now to serve citizens in the coming seasons. On Thursday, October 19, citizens may see plows, brine trucks, and leaf collection equipment throughout Cary as crews complete their annual test of machinery and train for the winter weather and loose leaf collection season. In addition to driving new plow routes and learning how to mix brine, crews will spend time reviewing chainsaw and vehicle safety. This season, Cary boasts 3,400 tons of salt and nearly 70 pieces of equipment to battle winter weather on Cary’s 787 miles of streets.
But before the waves of white, Cary is readying for the flurry of leaves that paint the streets with vibrant hues. The annual loose leaf collection begins town-wide on October 30 and returns with big improvements based on citizen feedback. This includes:
- All Cary homes should have leaves to the curb on October 30, November 27 and January 16, 2024 to ensure proper collection.
- Crews will collect leaves in each part of Cary simultaneously and citizens can track collection progress via a live map at carync.gov/leaves.
- Cary is committed to collecting leaves at every curb at least twice before Christmas.
- During loose leaf collection season, contractors collecting loose leaves on behalf of homeowners can now dispose of them at the Citizen’s Convenience Center. Simply call 311 or (919) 469-4000 and give the address of the loose leaf collection; contractors will have five business days to drop the leaves, free of charge.
To receive reminders about loose leaf collection dates, download the Cary Collects app in the Apple or Android stores. For more, visit carync.gov/leaves.
