Did you know that Wake County EMS offers multiple pathways for employees to achieve their goals of becoming a certified paramedic? Whether it's through a local community college or our own Internal Paramedic Program, Wake County EMS is dedicated to supporting our employees in every stage of their career.
Eight Wake County EMS employees graduated from our Internal Paramedic Program last week! All eight successfully passed the NC Office of EMS paramedic credentialing exam on the first attempt. This is the third class that has boasted a 100% pass right on their first attempt at the exam.
This accelerated paramedic program lasts 10 months and includes 1,340 hours of education, well over the 1,000 minimum hours required by the Office of EMS. During the program, employees participate in 800 hours of didactic, simulation, and skill practice, 300 hours of in-hospital and EMS field experience, and 240 hours of Capstone. Each student was the team lead in 37 patient simulations and participated in over 80 simulations.
In addition, on May 24, five employees graduated from Johnston Community College as paramedics.
And on May 9, three employees graduated from Wake Technical Community College as paramedics as part of the Wake Works Apprenticeship Program.
Congratulations to all of our new grads. We can't wait to see the difference you make in our community!
