Wake County's Groundwater

Water

Did you know more than 150,000 residents in Wake County depend upon groundwater for their water supply? Groundwater is also an important source of water to our streams and lakes. As temperatures increase and rainfall decreases, it is especially important to conserve water so that we maintain a healthy groundwater supply for all.

What can you do? Consider installing a rain barrel or cistern to capture rainfall for irrigation. Cisterns are great alternatives to irrigating with your drinking water and help ensure you have water for indoor use during summer droughts.
