The Holly Springs Town Council has approved the launch of a new ride-sharing transit service called the Holly Springs Hopper. The service is set to begin operation on January 5 and will be available from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. Residents will be able to request rides from their homes to any destination within Holly Springs or its extraterritorial jurisdiction.
“We are incredibly excited about the launch of the Hopper,” said Chris Hills, Development Services Director. “This service will connect our community in a way that is flexible, affordable, and accessible for everyone. Plus, it represents a significant step forward in our commitment to providing innovative and efficient transportation solutions that serve our residents.”
Rides can be requested through the Ride Freebee app or by phone. Each fare covers travel up to seven miles within the service area. The initial cost is $2 for up to two riders within town limits, with an additional $1 charge per extra rider. For trips into the extraterritorial jurisdiction, fares are doubled. Seniors aged 62 and older, as well as disabled riders, may use the service free of charge. During a promotional period, users who download the app will receive two complimentary trips.
Unaccompanied riders must be at least 16 years old. The Town plans to review how the service is used and make changes if needed.
The microtransit service will be operated by FreeBee and receives partial funding from a grant provided by the NC Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.
Residents can learn more about the new transit option by visiting the Town information area during HollyFest on Saturday, October 25.
