October is being observed as National Community Planning Month, highlighting the role of planning in shaping communities. The Town of Holly Springs is marking the occasion by outlining several ongoing planning efforts.

Chris Hills, Development Services Director for Holly Springs, emphasized the importance of planning in the community. “Our Town’s character and quality of life don’t happen by accident— they are carefully and intentionally planned,” Hills said. “The planners on our team guide where different types of development can occur, how we connect our roads and greenways, what our downtown looks and feels like, and so much more.”

Among the current initiatives is the preparation for a microtransit service set to launch next year. This ride-sharing service, similar to Uber and Lyft, will offer on-demand trips within a specific area of Holly Springs at a low fare.

The Town is also updating parts of its Comprehensive Plan. This document serves as a policy guide for staff, the Planning Board, and the Town Council when setting priorities for public investments. Updates are being made to sections related to community facilities—including land for police and fire stations and schools—as well as infrastructure, utilities, and natural areas.

Additionally, Holly Springs is exploring the idea of a Sports & Entertainment District around Ting Park. The proposed district would redevelop about 2.5 acres of mostly undeveloped town-owned land in and around the park to create a destination that offers more than just sporting events.

Residents can find more information about these planning initiatives on the Development Services webpage or by viewing the Interactive Development Map.
