Residents of Holly Springs aged 55 and older have new opportunities for engagement through expanded activities and a dedicated e-newsletter from the town’s Parks & Recreation Department. The new offerings follow feedback collected during a Community Chat hosted by Mayor Sean Mayefskie, as well as input from senior focus groups and an online survey.
“The feedback we gathered through various channels and conversations was truly instrumental in shaping expanded offerings of programs and activities geared specifically for this age group,” said Holly Springs Parks & Recreation Director LeeAnn Plumer.
The newly launched Senior Spotlight e-newsletter provides updates on regular programs, unique monthly activities, and information about upcoming events. Seniors can subscribe to the newsletter at hollyspringsnc.gov/seniors.
Among the expanded offerings are weekly clubs such as Wii bowling, bridge, mah-jongg, workshops on technology and nutrition, fitness classes, wellness activities, social gatherings, volunteer opportunities, and group outings to regional destinations. The newsletter also features information about local festivals and performances.
Plumer added that seniors were intentionally considered in the design plans for a future multigenerational recreation center at Eagles Landing Park.
The Town of Holly Springs funds its operations through a balanced annual budget that includes tax rates and municipal project expenditures. Details about governance can be found on the official website. The community operates under a council-manager system with six elected council members including the mayor; elections are held in odd-numbered years (more details here).
In addition to expanding services for seniors, Holly Springs maintains historical sites such as Bass Lake Park and commemorates heritage locations like the Norris-Holland-Hare House (see more).
