Cotton Incorporated has announced a new initiative focusing on sustainable textiles. They have developed fabrics filled with recycled products like denim and cotton t-shirts, moving away from traditional polyester fills. This innovation is part of their effort to reduce waste and promote environmentally friendly practices.
Yvonne Johnson, the director of product development for Cotton Incorporated, highlighted the significance of this new approach. She stated, “Our team’s collaborative efforts shine in fabric construction innovations,” adding that the use of recycled cotton materials and natural fabrics is pushing boundaries for sustainability in the industry.
The fabrics are characterized by a combination of natural fibers, knit and woven constructions, and a mix of virgin cotton fabric with recycled cotton batting. These elements contribute to the products’ qualities of circularity and biodegradability, aimed at inspiring designers, brands, and retailers.
Cotton Incorporated is a research and promotion company for Upland cotton, supported by U.S. cotton growers and importers. The organization conducts over 450 research and educational projects annually, covering areas like agricultural and textile innovations.
