Set against the backdrop of San Diego’s vibrant ranunculus blooms, Cotton Incorporated collaborated with CAKE PICNIC to host the first-ever Cake Picnic event. This gathering attracted cake enthusiasts, community members, and eco-conscious individuals to celebrate both desserts and the benefits of cotton fabrics.

Cotton Incorporated, serving as the exclusive sponsor, used the event as an opportunity to showcase the sustainability and practicality of cotton fibers for outdoor settings. The event presented over 130 cakes, each baked by attendees and displayed on cotton tablecloths, linens, and napkins. These cotton items highlighted the utility of the fabric in handling cake-related spills while dining and entertaining outdoors.

The event also provided guests with a preview of Cotton’s upcoming collaboration with Abbode, a bespoke embroidery studio. This new line of embroidered cotton accessories merges creativity with sustainability, enhancing outdoor dining experiences.

Kim Kitchings, the senior vice president of consumer marketing at Cotton Incorporated, emphasized that “cotton is naturally soft, breathable, and easy to care for.” She stated, “We want everyone to see cotton as the go-to fabric for any gathering — whether you’re wearing it or dining with it, it’s a timeless fiber.”

Elisa Sunga, founder of CAKE PICNIC, expressed her enthusiasm about partnering with Cotton, describing their collaboration as “a match made in heaven.” She added, “When planning our picnics, especially with cake involved, I always reach for my cotton blanket—perfect for those sweet but messy moments.”

Attendees were invited to engage in interactive experiences, testing their knowledge of cotton through hands-on quizzes, with chances to win exclusive prizes. The event celebrated springtime with sweet treats, fresh blooms, and the comfort of cotton, showcasing why it is considered an ideal fabric for outdoor use. Cotton is known for being absorbent, quick-drying, and odor-resistant, making it suitable for warm-weather entertainment.

Cotton Incorporated, a not-for-profit organization, is focused on increasing the demand for cotton through research and promotion funded by U.S. cotton growers and importers. The company undertakes various projects aimed at enhancing both agricultural and textile innovations.

CAKE PICNIC celebrates the diverse world of cakes, bringing communities together to enjoy various types of cakes.
