The Town of Cary announced on Mar. 23 the opening of the Cedar Street parking deck, providing nearly 300 new free public parking spaces in downtown Cary. The facility, located at 136 E. Cedar St., is designed to serve visitors, residents, and nearby businesses with improved access to dining, shopping, and Downtown Cary Park.

The addition of this parking deck addresses increased demand for accessible and convenient parking as more people visit downtown for events and activities. With eight ADA-accessible spaces and 22 electric vehicle charging stations across its first three levels, the deck aims to accommodate a range of needs.

According to Assistant Town Manager Scot Berry, “The continued success of Downtown Cary Park, combined with the variety of new and existing businesses, reflects the strong momentum in our downtown. The Cedar Street Parking Deck provides a centralized, convenient option for residents and visitors to easily access and enjoy everything downtown Cary has to offer.”

The ground floor features retail space facing E. Chatham Street along with distinctive architectural elements. A stormwater treatment device was included in the design to support environmental sustainability efforts.

Improvements have also been made to Rogers Alley next to the new structure with brick paver walkways, string lighting, outdoor seating areas, and upgrades that will support future restaurant space development. Visitors are encouraged by town officials to use this new public parking option rather than park in nearby neighborhoods or private lots when visiting downtown.

Guests can access local destinations on foot or by using GoCary’s Downtown Loop transit service after parking their vehicles at the new facility. Construction on another project—the Academy Street Parking Deck—is expected to finish later this spring.
