Apple has made significant changes to its app installation process in the European Union, reducing the steps required to install alternative app stores from 15 to six. This change, implemented with iOS 18.6 in July, is a response to ongoing enforcement of the Digital Markets Act. The update removes a previous “scare screen” and a dead-end that left users stranded in iOS Settings.

According to Epic Games, these improvements have led to a notable decrease in player drop-off during attempts to install the Epic Games Store. Previously, around 65% of users faced challenges due to Apple’s design, but this figure has now dropped to approximately 25%. The success rate for installing the Epic Games Store on iOS is now approaching that of Windows and Mac users.

An Epic Games spokesperson said, “For the first time, we are starting to see iOS users install the Epic Games Store with a success rate approaching Windows users and Apple’s own Mac users.”
